If you have piezo disk pickups in your guitar, we've got great news for you!
Our Amulet Ultra Multi systems can help to improve the sound and onstage reliability of piezo disk pickups (i.e.: K&K™, JJB™, etc.). We make several different systems that work very well with these pickups, and include additional improvements and features.
All of our Ultra Multi systems offer something previously unavailable for 3 disk piezo systems - a separate preamp for each disk, each with its own easily accessible gain trimmer. This not only eliminates crosstalk between pickups (which improves clarity and dynamic range), it also allows you to perfectly adjust the output of each disk for proper string balance and to correct the levels of any disks that may have been inaccurately placed during the installation process. The individual trimmers also allow you to precisely set the overall combined output of your instrument, so you can match the levels of multiple guitars for easy instrument swaps during a show.
The Ultra Multi systems provide a pair of thumbwheel controls right at the sound hole, allowing you to easily adjust volume, tone, pickup balance or other useful features depending on which system is installed. The Multi systems are available in both Mono output, which can use a standard 1/4” mono TS guitar cable, as well as Stereo output, which uses a 1/4” stereo TRS to XLR cable with a y-splitter to output to 2 channels of your rig.
Mono systems give you the ultimate in familiarity and simplicity, while Stereo systems provide a much wider amount of control over your sound. Having access to 2 separate output channels gives you greater EQ and effects possibilities. Plus, our Ultra Stereo systems can still function as a standard Mono output system with a simple adapter from our Custom Shop for maximum flexibility.
Speaking of Multi flexibility...
Our Top 2 customer favorites for use with 3 disk piezo systems: the Ultra Multi Mono Blend and the Ultra Multi True Stereo.
What we’ve found in 3 piezo pickup systems is that the middle pickup has a minimal impact on the string balance of a guitar, but it does have an influence on the overall tone of the instrument. When mixed forward, it adds a more aggressive and “barky” tone, while pulling it back in the mix gives the guitar a more rounded tone, both without sacrificing a reasonable string balance. And the Ultra Multi Mono Blend give you a soundhole thumbwheel control that allows you to regulate how much of that center piezo disk you hear in order to fine-tune your sound on the fly!
The Custom Shop Ultra Multi True Stereo system uses a similar concept, giving you a soundhole thumbwheel to control output of that center piezo disk, but puts it at the center of a stereo field, with each of the other 2 pickups going left and right. You can hear this system in action at about 5 minutes in on Doug Young's demo video on our main page.
